Miscellaneous travel sites

Popular travel sites

This is a list of the most popular search sites for flights and hotels. Many of these sites offer similar services, but prices and selection vary greatly.

Although there are many company names involved, there are not many different owners behind them. Expedia Group, Booking Holdings, and Alphabet Inc. own most of them.

Here are some of the most popular travel sites:

  • Booking    The world's most used travel service. Owned by Booking Holdings.
Flights, hotels, package tours, car rentals, activities at the destination and flight taxis.
  • Expedia    - Same owner: Hotels.com, Orbitz, Travelocity, Hotwire, Trivago, ebookers.
Flights, hotels, package tours, car rentals, and activities at the destination.
  • Kayak - Same owner: Booking, Agoda, Momondo, and Travelweb.
Flights, hotels, package tours, and car rentals.
They also have a nice overview of direct flights. Here you can request notification when flight prices change.
  • Tripadvisor The most popular travel service in Norway. Owned by Booking Holdings.
Perhaps best known for reviews of accommodation and dining options.
Here you will also find lots of advice and tips, and a large travel forum where most things are answered.
Here are also the usual services: flights, hotels, package tours, car rentals, and activities at the destination.
  • Hotels Owned by Booking Holdings.
Here it is possible to find very good deals on accommodation. They have a customer program that gives "1 bonus night for every 10th night you complete".
  • Google Flights
Primarily flights. Here too, you can request notification when prices change.
Google has of course an overview of most things, including hotels, package tours, and activities.
  • Rome2rio
A kind of all-in-one search engine for travel.
Search for, for example, Oslo to Paris and it shows alternatives with flights, trains, buses, ferries, and various combinations of these. Contains incredibly much.

Travel blogs and similar

Many people have travel experience and some share their experiences in travel blogs. For some, this has become their way of life, they travel and they blog about it.

On my Norwegian page, I have links to several blogs in Norwegian, aimed primarily at Norwegian travelers. You can find them a little further down the page at this link. Norwegian blogs

Some of these Norwegian blogs also have English versions:

  • Reiselykke
The blogger describes herself as someone who writes about travel in culture, food/wine, and literature. She focuses on sustainable tourism.
  • Bilivoka
Many short and some very long journeys, all over the world. Focusing more and more on adventure travel.

I also have a comprehensive collection of links to blogs and much more:
